Hi Derek,

That's true. It does SOUND great, flipping around, making notes on real paper. I have to see what it really looks like, though. The videos of the QUE in action disappointed me. It looks like E-Ink lag + processor lag + software lag = one frustrating experience.

But then, I can't justify personally spending $650 on either device. But I think the iPad has much broader appeal.

I've been keen on the Plastic Logic product for the past year, and in a side by side comparison, it is thinner, lighter, higher and wider (so 8 x 11 is is closer to the real numbers), and has the ability for handwritten notes as you say. For a pure business function, the Que seems to edge the IPad. I don't need 3G, or even wireless, and even less video, pictures or games or apps: I just want all my docs in a screen, pure and simple.

Hi, Thanks for stopping by.

KenJr -- The Alex's 3G is definitely one of its big benefits over the iPad. Still, I'm not sold yet. I want to see a few more advantages to the dual-screen thing, because I've already got a smartphone (bottom screen) and an ereader (top screen). Not sure why I'd need them blended into one.

Also, I missed that price cut entirely. Hopefully it'll be lowered by another $100 by summer.

Tiffany -- I like to read on E-Ink, too, but I'm not paying $650 or $800 for the privilege, even if I can hand-write notes. On the other hand, I stare into my computer's backlight for more than three hours a day.

I don't know, what can I say--at everybody's current price points, I find the iPad the most tempting. Assuming everybody drops by $100, the weight might shift to the Alex, but I'm simply not interested in a QUE at such an exorbitant price.

E-Ink. I don't read for fun for 30 minutes at a time. It takes an hour to read a research journal article in PDF and I have three of them to read & highlight. Why would I want to spend 3 hours staring into a flashlight?

I want to be able to take notes on my reader device because I don't want to lug around a notebook for notes and a reader for reading.

I want to read the newspaper, journal articles, books. If I want to watch a movie or surf the web then I'll pull out my laptop.

I'm a classic early adapter but I'm totally underwhelmed by the iPad (cheapest with fewest features is $499). On the other hand, I'd like to have an Alex ($359, not $400). I'll buy one if I can use its 3G feature cheaply (preferably free).

And if not, I still have my smart phone, iMac w/ Snow leopard & Win7, and, of course, my Kindle.
