Actually, we (the authors) conducted extensive interviews with the participants and spent a good deal of time on the peak, and Terry Delonas agreed to full disclosure. He saw the manuscript before it was published, and he asked for a couple of changes, which we agreed to. It's not the book he would have written, but it is an honest and informed account. We spent 14 years on the book. What some people who were on the peak (such as John Doe above) are upset about is this: we don't argue that there's conclusive evidence that there was ever a treasure, and we don't claim that the government stole it all. We report many of the tales without confirming or denying them. One author thinks there probably was a treasure, and the other (that would be me) thinks it's unlikely. Many treasure enthusiasts would have preferred a book that bought into all of the stories of treasure and theft of treasue (even though these stories sometimes contradict one another). We tried to write a book that takes a balanced look at the quite amazing story of Terry Delonas's search for the treasure that Doc and Babe claimed to have found. It's also a book about Terry's struggle with AIDS, and that story doesn't please some of the treasure hunters. Others who were on the peak have found the book both accurate and engaging, and feel that it is an important account of that fascinating time.

Clearly there was personal information about Terry Delonas which was not supposed to be published. I spent 3 years working full time on the excavation of Victorio Peak from 1992-95. I am one of the main characters in the book. And I can tell you that I am quoted on several occasions saying things that were totally fabricated, that I absolutely never said. The authors spent maybe a total of 20 days at the Peak over a 3 year period, so they were completely unqualified to write a true and insightful account of what really went on and why we failed to access the treasure, which is still sitting there to this day.

This book was not condoned by Terry Delonas or the Noss family. It is not the story of Victorio Peak. Robert Boswell and David Schweidel were specifically asked not to publish certain information which both author disregarded.
