Not really a review so much as a reminder. I had this book in the queue for ages and finally got around to reading it after years of hearing friends say, “You haven’t read that?” White Teeth is one of those rare books that pretty much delivers on all the hype you might have heard about it. Rather than piling on too much more hype, I’ll just say that you should hurry up and read it. Or better yet, save it for a time when maybe you know you’re going to need a really good read. If you’re stressed out at work and looking for a distraction to take on your lunch break, then reach for White Teeth, or if you’ve been blessed with an abundance of free time by this economy and you’re looking for something to really lose yourself in, then you should reach for White Teeth, too. Weighing in at over four hundred pages, this is no light read, but it offers rewards for every kind of reader, hitting on every level, visceral and engaging, thoughtful and almost clairvoyantly insightful. So take your time, read it when the time feels right, but don’t forget to read it.

One of the most phenomenal books I’ve read. I’m glad you brought it up, as it’s a book everyone should read and will like. It’s almost enraging that she wrote with such wisdom when barely 21 years old. She edited a collection of character-centric short stories by many of her generation’s heavy hitters entitled
"The Book of Other People"that people might also find interesting to read.I know what you mean about not piling on the hype. When I reviewed it I didn’t know what to say, and mostly just quoted the book!
