Hey Peter (and everyone else),
The new Reader Library software Sony put out last month seems to work pretty well. I have no problem at all sticking DRMed library books on my Pocket any more (it used to be a slow, headache-inducing rigmarole).

Dear Miriam
These are goodnews for you, but not for me, as my reader still refuses to communicate with me!
Who has a bright idea to bring my reader back to life from his hibernation trauma?

I have had my Sony ereader for a couple of years and have never had a moment of trouble with it. The Sony Library has been very "user friendly" for me. The whole process has been easy and uncomplicated for me, and I love it.

My Sony ebook reader PSP650 is frozen. It does not react to pressing the reset button and it doesn't connect to my PC at all. It does not react at all. I can only throw it away unless somebody has a bright idea to solve this problem!

Sony reader store has come out with a newer design as of this year 2011. I also have the syncing problem but its partv of how it is. I haven'y had
any problems with my reader but I could have adapted to its way of working.

I too have a Sony touch and while I love it as an ereader, I am also frustrated with their software (v3.3). I chose it over a Kindle, as I am in Australia, and at the time, there was a much reduced offering to customers outside US/Canada. I run a Macbook and I am new to Mac, so I also have the added difficulty of learning a new OS. I have not had a problem with the program freezing but I am very frustrated at the clumsiness of the software. The problems I have are:

1. Every time I connect my reader (even just to charge) it automatically wants to sync. I have not found out how to turn this feature off (does anyone know?).
2. Why does sony think I need 1, 2, 3, 4, 5+ .... copies of the same book????? Surely when the ereader "sync's" that means only add new content, duh! Currently I uncheck everything, sync, recheck, sync if I just want one copy of each ebook, but really, what are they thinking? (Again, does anyone have a fix/shortcut for this?)
3. There are a number of free ebooks that I downloaded that simply wouldn't load onto the ereader and the 'sync' would hang (not freeze, as I could still cancel the sync and retry after deleting the file). But surely if there is a problem with a file it is not too much to ask for a simple "error message" rather than just leave me hanging?!!!!
Sony, Sony, Sony ... My next ereader will be another brand unless this improves.

I hate Sony more and more every day. They should not have sold their soul to the Chinese. Their quality is not even second class. They are not on the charts!

I got the Sony Reader as a gift. It's more like torture!

Hi Krystal,

Thanks for your thoughts. Yes, even Sony should be able to improve an interface in the two years since this was written so that a non-genius can use it three times without a crash.
